Upcoming Events
Hello League Members and Friends.
Our calendar is buzzing with events. The Primary Election is forefront on the August calendar. Be a voter advocate and encourage all your friends and family to get out and vote. The LWV is holding a Nationwide Day of Action for Voting Rights on August 8th in honor of the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Our country is in a constitutional crisis and our voting process is under attack. It is up to all of us, no matter our political party, to engage, mobilize, and push back against anti-democratic threats. Leagues and partners will lead hundreds of activations across the country centered on increasing voter engagement, turnout, and education, with particular emphasis on young voters and community partnerships. The League of Women Voters of Michigan will host a livestream 30-minute documentary, Three Marches, Two Sisters, One Bridge as a YouTube Live event. The event will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the two sisters who marched across Selma’s Edmund Pettus Bridge in 1965. The documentary tells the untold story of two 1965 Selma foot soldiers, still fighting for Voting Rights. Grab some friends and tune into LWVMI’s YouTube channel at 5:00pm on August 8th .
The Grand Traverse League will be at the Traverse City Farmers Market with a booth encouraging people to Unite and Rise for Voting Rights. Be sure to drop by.
